Look at this bullshit.

It couldn’t just be “Muslims”. IBT couldn’t resist prefacing this message with “moderate”, as if Muslims have to be aloof, docile and separated from the rest of our community to understand that murder is wrong. The insinuation is that there are “conservative” Muslims who support murder and moderates who don’t, instead of almost a quarter of the world’s population who all have independent thought processes and a vast majority will confirm the immorality of the attack that occurred today. There is hardly a demographic of 1.6 billion people that gets classified in such a homogenizing and condescending way.

This is casual, every day microaggressive Islamophobia at its finest. The type we have to deal with everyday. The type that insists we beg and plead for forgiveness and even when swarms of Muslims oppose and extend sympathy for an action that’ll endanger and stigmatize us (especially French Muslims) anyways, we’re still just moderate, at best. Liberal, apolitical, detached.

There is no equivalent for dominant and privileged groups. Are white people “moderate” for opposing the continuous murder of black people every 28 hours and the perpetual colonization of indigenous land? Are the white British and French citizens considered “moderate” if they understand that colonization of most of this world was a horrid and unethical period in their country’s history?

Of course not, because hegemonic power structures deem some worthy of retaining autonomy and having their humanity understood, whereas some have to be of a certain kind to retain basic principles. This is exactly the sort of blatant dehumanization Muslims have had to endure, particularly since 9/11.
