Tabris finding the gates closed and a guard telling them that arl closed off the alienage because of disease and riots after the “purge.” And why did the arl decide to purge the alienage? Because the elves had killed the previous arl’s son. The guard very clearly says that they did it.

So imagine a Tabris who took all the responsibility when the guards came, who was ready to be imprisoned and executed for killing Vaughan, who had to become a Grey Warden because they wanted to save Shianni, who didn’t want Soris to get in trouble for coming to help, who thought that doing this would save lives of their family and everyone else in the alienage. Imagine their reaction when they find out that even after they took all the responsibility, gave up their life and their family, and accepted a death sentence, albeit a delayed one, the alienage was still purged. None of what they did even mattered
