Torture, decimation of human life, torn limbs, sexual abuse threatened against children, waterboarding done 183 times on a single person and more. All brought to you by the land of Freedom and Democracy. This was a redacted executive summary approved by the White House, of the CIA torture programme. Imagine what the redacted information contains. Here’s a glimpse into what the Civilized World does to us savages in the name of protecting the United States from a “looming Islamic threat.” I have a lot to say about this with reference to Empire-delineated legality, spaces and states of exception applied always against the Other, law-fetishizing liberals who assume pardoning war criminals will somehow rectify Empire activity (the ACLU report was hilariously absurd), the Western semantics of “freedom” and “terrorism”, the cultural industry of terrorism, and more. But I can say one thing right now: The entire United States is culpable and maybe now, though I doubt it considering how so many of you still think in nauseatingly bourgeois ideals, you can see what the United States stands for in both foreign and domestic capacities. I would suggest that you all read The Case Against Human Rights in the meantime. I fully endorse it. I will also suggest that you acquaint yourself with the works of Saadia Toor, Manan Ahmed, etc who have worked on relevant themes.
It is amazing how even after reading this report there will be a significant number of Americans who will wonder why “they hate us.”
