ibt-w:

There’s something that annoys me about male allies who waltz around feminist communities like, “ladies, call me out about anything I do wrong! I’m totally open to critique!” all the time. This is often received with praise but, like, idk…why can’t a women’s lib movement be free to direct all of its energy into women’s lib and not have to divert some of that energy every 20 secs just to correct some usurping male arsehole who decided his time would be better spent hovering in feminist spaces than protesting male violence/porn/etc. in men’s spaces? Some (usually het) women will kiss male arse for being open to being corrected/called out but won’t even stop to think, “okay but why the hell does this dudely dude think it’s somehow mighty nice of him to tell me that I’m welcome to drop what I’m doing and remind him that he’s also a man/is overstepping his bounds/is being inappropriate/etc., as if he’s doing me a favour and not, like, just being a huge annoyance at best and a source of diversion and discomfort for women at worst?” It’s all well and good to be “open to critique”, but critique should be for mixed spaces, no? Why do women have to think about calling men out in feminist spaces of all places? Give us a goddamn break. Leave us alone.
