This installation by Palestinian artist Emily Jacir commemorates the approximately 30,000 books from Palestinian homes, libraries, and institutions that were looted by Israeli authorities in 1948. Six thousand of these books are kept in stock in Jerusalem under the designation “Abandoned Property.” The artist photographed many of these books, and translated selected handwritten inscriptions to be exhibited on billboards such as this one.
The text reads, “This book belongs to its owner Fathallah Saad. He bought it with his own money at the beginning of March 1892.” #Palestine #StreetArt (at The High Line)
